Shipping, returns and guarantee

How to buy smart from Amazon
Buying houseplants online
- Compare by pot size (for example 4 in, 6 in, 10 in), not plant name: the same plant can differ several times in size and price.
- Order in mild weather where you can. Shipping in winter cold or summer heat causes most losses; some shops add heat packs or hold orders, so check at checkout.
- Open the box the day it arrives, photograph the plant and packaging, and report problems quickly; guarantees usually have a short window and often need photos.
- Keep a new plant away from your other plants for about two weeks and check leaf undersides for pests.
- Do not repot straight away. Let it settle in bright, indirect light for a couple of weeks first.
Buying garden plants online
- Match the plant to your hardiness zone and to your sun and soil before you compare prices.
- Time the order to your planting season; many shops ship perennials and shrubs only in set windows for each region.
- Check the pot size or "plant form" (plug, quart, gallon, bare-root) so you compare like with like.
- Unpack, water and keep new plants in light shade for a few days before planting out.
