Shipping, returns and guarantee
We have not yet read Gurney's's policy pages, so we do not state its shipping areas, speed or guarantee. Before you pay, check at checkout:
- Which states it ships to (some plants cannot go to California, Arizona, Hawaii or Alaska, among others).
- When your order will ship, and whether it holds orders during very hot or cold weather.
- What happens if a plant arrives damaged: how many days you have to report it, whether photos are needed, and whether you get a replacement or refund.
How to buy smart from Gurney's
Buying garden plants online
- Match the plant to your hardiness zone and to your sun and soil before you compare prices.
- Time the order to your planting season; many shops ship perennials and shrubs only in set windows for each region.
- Check the pot size or "plant form" (plug, quart, gallon, bare-root) so you compare like with like.
- Unpack, water and keep new plants in light shade for a few days before planting out.
Buying trees and shrubs online
- Check your USDA hardiness zone first and buy only plants rated for it.
- Compare container sizes (for example #1 or #3 gallon) and stated height; a cheap tree is often a much smaller plant.
- Some plants cannot be shipped to some states because of agricultural rules; the shop should block these at checkout, but check before you plan a planting.
- Bare-root plants ship while dormant and should be planted soon after arrival; potted plants are more flexible.
- Read the guarantee terms: many nursery guarantees require you to report problems within a set time and keep photos or receipts.
